SIX WAYS TO PARTICIPATE IN PCCW

 Watch Captains

Effective community groups require good leadership. PCCW currently has two Watch Captain positions. The Watch Captains work as a collaborative team to navigate PCCW in its daily activities and form working partnerships with other local, state and national agencies. Watch Captains work closely with Sector Coordinators and Watch Advisers to develop guiding policies for the Watch. In keeping with national neighborhood watch guidance, PCCW Watch Captains should be 18 years of age or older and should reside within Palmer Cove.

 Watch Sector Coordinators

For the effective operation of PCCW's mission - to prevent, observe and report crime in Palmer Cove - the neighborhood has been divided into two distinct sectors, North and South. As such, PCCW currently has two Watch Sector Coordinator positions. Watch Sector Coordinators are the first points of contact for Watch Members and concerned persons in each sector. Ideally, Watch Sector Coordinators live in the sector that they supervise. In keeping with national neighborhood watch guidance, PCCW Watch Sector Coordinators should be 18 years of age or older.

 Watch Researchers

PCCW Watch Researchers provide critical support to the organization through deep analysis of all available crime data and related information. Utilizing Watch Member reports, online databases, news reports and social networks, the Watch Researchers work in concert with one another to prepare and submit reports to the Watch Captains and Watch Sector Coordinators for the purpose of guiding the activities of the Watch. There is no age restriction for Watch Researcher positions and no limit to the number of Watch Researchers that the Watch can have at any given time. Training is provided for this important role.

 Commercial Watch Members

Commercial Watch Members are those PCCW Members who own, operate or are employed by businesses within Palmer Cove. Like all Watch Members, they serve as the eyes and ears of PCCW, spending time in direct observation, documentation and reporting. Commercial Watch Members are perfectly positioned to inform the Watch of the unique ways in which criminal and anti-social behavior affects their ability to conduct normal business in Palmer Cove, and the Watch is especially concerned with assisting local businesses to thrive in safety.

 Watch Advisers

All effective Crime Watch organizations rely on partnerships with Watch Advisers. Members of the voluntary PCCW Advisory Board are drawn from local government, local law enforcement, Salem's neighborhood associations, academia and beyond, with the purpose of having a broad spectrum of expertise and wisdom available to guide the Watch. Watch Advisers will meet and communicate individually and collectively with the Watch Captains and Watch Sector Coordinators to ensure that the Watch is operating effectively and appropriately at all times. There are currently six seats on the PCCW Advisory Board.

 Watch Members

Watch Members are the eyes and ears of PCCW, spending time in direct observation, documentation and reporting. Watch Member activities, including patrols, are generally coordinated by their Watch Sector Coordinator, with whom they are in regular contact. There is no limit on the number of Watch Members and no minimum time commitment requirements. In keeping with national neighborhood watch guidance, PCCW Watch Members should be 18 years of age or older and should reside or spend regular time within or nearby the Palmer Cove neighborhood. Training is provided for this important role.
