Like most cities, Salem has a crime rate that continues to present concerns for many who spend time here. While the rate of violent crime in Salem is generally lower than rates found in comparable urban areas, the number of property crimes in Salem is higher than the national average. And both the violent crime and property crime rates are high enough to warrant increased action in the areas of prevention, observation and reporting. Residents, business owners and visitors can all play an important role in providing valuable information to one another and to local law enforcement. Together, we can send the message that criminal activity has no place in Salem.

Research clearly shows that active community crime watch organizations have a positive impact on crime reduction, especially if they remain active over long periods of time. Established crime watch organizations result in stronger community connections, shared visions for a safer community, healthier relationships between police officers and those whom they protect, and, subsequently, a meaningful reduction in local crime activity. WHAT IS PCCW?

Palmer Cove Crime Watch has been established as an all-volunteer organization open to residents, business owners and visitors along Palmer Cove who are interested in participating in a collective crime prevention effort. Our purpose is to prevent, observe and report crime for the purposes of making our neighborhood safer and assisting local law enforcement in the apprehension of those who engage in criminal activity. PCCW provides an online gathering place for helpful information and resources, as well as an anonymous reporting system for use by those who are unable to contact local authorities directly.

PCCW collects and analyses crime data from a variety of sources, including city government, state government, criminologists, sociologists, local media, partner crime watch groups, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This information and analysis is made available to Members through the PCCW website, and you are invited to share any additional information that you might discover in your own research. To contribute information, please email us at PalmerCoveCrimeWatch@gmail.com.

Palmer Cove Safety Patrol is an independent, all-volunteer organization and does not claim nor offer any endorsements or affiliations.
